The Top 3 Reasons to Choose an In-Home Newborn Photography Session | The COVID Edition

July 15, 2020

You just had your baby, and you wonder how you can possibly have a newborn photography session. Because, friends, we are currently in the midst of a global pandemic.

If you are reading this as it is posted, you know what the COVID-19 outbreak is all about. You are in the thick of it. If you are reading this outside of pandemic times, check out this post on The 7 Best Reasons to Choose an In-Home Newborn Photography Session under normal circumstances 😉 (or check out both, that’s cool too!)

Right now, it all comes down to the 3 C’s: comfort, children, and COVID-19.

Comfort

One of my favorite reasons to choose an in-home session is that fact that it is in the comfort of your own home. You don’t have to pack up for a session, you don’t have to leave your house if you are still a little sore from delivery, you don’t have to sit in a studio for several hours.

Right now, comfort means something a little different. Are you comfortable leaving your home with your infant in the midst of the pandemic? For a lot of new moms, the answer is no, even when the world is “normal”. Some moms don’t want to leave the house except when it is truly needed for things like doctor’s appointments. And some moms are ready to rock and roll right away. Think about your own personal comfort level to decide what is best for you and your family.

Home is also the place we have been hanging out for many months. We are living at home, working from home, staying at home. Home is the most comfortable place to be for many families right now.

Children

I am a HUGE fan of in-home sessions when your newborn has siblings. Children are far more comfortable in their own homes than they are in studio, even if they may be more wild. 😊

In the midst of the pandemic, are you more comfortable keeping your children at home instead of taking them out of the house? If yes, an in-home session is right for you.

COVID-19

Lastly, we have to talk about COVID. In Arizona where I am located and conduct most of my sessions, there are expectations for masking and social distancing.

At home, social distancing is often hard, especially in small spaces. We may not be able to be 6-feet apart at all times. However, I will be masked, any supplies I bring will be freshly laundered and/or disinfected, and I wash and sanitize hands regularly.

You will also only interact with me in your own space vs. interaction with others outside of your home.

Wrap Up

Times are tough and having a baby in the midst of a pandemic is most certainly not what you pictured when you got pregnant. I hope I can help you document your new baby in the most “normal” way possible.
